Frequently Asked Questions

At Flash Dog Training, we work with owners who understand that they play a crucial role in their dog’s success. One of the truest statements in behavior work is that environment affects behavior. Because you are part of your dog’s environment, your habits, energy, and structure have a direct impact on your dog’s progress.

Our goal is to teach you, the owner, how to become the most effective part of your dog’s obedience training. That often means being open to changes that support better structure and calmness at home, like creating clear boundaries around furniture privileges or affection.

Flash Dog Training uses balanced, humane, and effective methods to help dogs understand and thrive. Every tool we use is chosen for its simplicity, clarity, and long-term results. We do not modify our approach to please trends or outside opinions, we choose what works best for each individual dog.

Your dog’s long-term results depend as much on your consistency as they do on our training. Flash Dog Training guarantees that every dog in our Board and Train Program will receive professional, goal-oriented training.

However, maintaining those results at home requires reinforcement and follow-through from the owner. When clients continue the structure, boundaries, and handling we teach, they see lasting results.

Our team supports every graduate for the life of their dog through ongoing communication — by phone, email, or FaceTime after completing our Three Week Board and Train Program.

Clients are often surprised at how gentle modern e-collar training truly is. The first level a person can feel is often described as a light tingle, similar to a small vibration or the feeling of a fly landing on your skin. As the levels increase, the sensation feels like mild “pins and needles.”

E-collars for dogs are communication tools, not punishment devices. They allow clear, consistent communication even at a distance and help dogs build focus, calmness, and reliability in real-world situations.

No trainer can make every dog like every other dog, just as people don’t necessarily like everyone they meet. At Flash Dog Training, our focus is not on forcing friendships but on building tolerance, self-control, and safety.

Many aggressive or reactive dogs become calm, neutral, and manageable after completing our Board and Train Program. Some may even become social again, while others remain selective. Every dog’s outcome depends on factors like genetics, environment, follow-through at home, and personality.

Our trainers evaluate each dog individually to set clear, realistic expectations for progress.

Most problem behaviors start in the home environment, where structure is often inconsistent or unclear. By removing the dog from that setting, our trainers can start fresh, creating a clean slate where the dog can learn without old habits interfering.

During your dog’s stay at our Board and Train facility in Redmond, Oregon or Broomfield, Colorado, we implement structure, clarity, and calm handling. This environment allows faster learning and stronger results.

Meanwhile, owners have time to prepare their homes and routines to support their dog’s new skills. Regular communication throughout the training ensures that when your dog comes home, both you and your dog are ready to maintain success.

Yes, and sometimes no. Our trainers use each dog’s food strategically during training sessions rather than relying on treats. For certain tasks like grooming, nail trims, or confidence work, we may use higher-value rewards.

Food is just one tool among many. At Flash Dog Training, we focus on balanced methods that include clear structure, leash guidance, verbal communication, and play. We also show owners how to become engaging and fun leaders for their dogs, because motivation doesn’t always have to come from food.

We like to say: “Dog training: if you’re not embarrassing yourself, you’re not doing it right!” Being animated and joyful with your dog builds connection and trust.

We do not offer discounts for multiple dogs. Training two or more dogs from the same household often requires significantly more time and focus, especially if they’ve been reinforcing bad habits together.

Our Board and Train Programs for multi-dog households involve separate sessions and careful structure to ensure that each dog learns independently before being reintroduced. This process delivers better long-term success for everyone involved.
